Meets and Events
This is a competitive summer league team, meaning that we have swim meets every week (usually on Thursdays at 6:00 P.M.). Your swimmer will get a chance to experience that competitive atmosphere that swimming has to offer. Swimming is a team sport, but it is also an individual sport, which creates a great opportunity for swimmers (new and returning) to set goals for themselves, which is a great skill to have at anytime in all walks of life!

What does a swim meet look like?
A swim meet is an event where two or more swim teams "meet" to compete with each other. Swim Meets are composed of multiple different kinds of races, known as events. The kinds of events, and rules of the events are typically determined by the swim league for clubs and summer teams, regulations and events at the high school level are determined by the state high school athletic association, and collegiate events and regulations are determined by the NCAA.
Events are broken up into what are known as heats, which are basically individual races composed of usually 6 or 8 swimmers per heat. In each heat, every swimmer competes for the fastest time. If you win your heat, that is really good! However, in order to win the event (or place and score), you need to have the fastest time out of all the heats that are run in the event.
Each meet will start with Event #1, then after all the heats in Event #1 are done, Event #2 starts, and the process repeats until all the events are finished. The swimmers with the top 5 times in each event score points for their team, and whichever team has the most points at the end of the meet, wins!
What are Heat Sheets?
Heat Sheets are, in essence, the "agenda" of the meet. They organize each swimmer into the lane that they are racing in as well as the heat they are competing in. They also show how many swimmers are in each event as well as what events are being run at the meet. (see the example below):

How can parents get involved in Swim Meets?
Parents are required to volunteer to a meet job at a minimum 2 meets per season. These jobs can be timing, running, officiating, clerk of the course, starting, and many other jobs. We are always looking for volunteers, and it is our amazing volunteers that help make swim meets happen!
For more information on volunteering, and volunteer jobs, see our volunteer page.
Other Team Events
While most of the events that take place on the Jets swim team is swim meets, we have a few other events as well including, a end of the season banquet, team pictures and Fun Fridays.
